Where it started
I ran an agency. I needed proof.
Back in 2012 I ran a WordPress marketing agency called SiteSpot. We built hundreds of sites for small and medium businesses. Business was good, but we were running in the dark: relying on hunches and asking clients to trust us.
So we started split testing our changes. We found problems we had no idea about. We found opportunities that grew businesses. Clients were happy and results kept improving. For me, though, it was a grind, because every testing tool sucked. Each one ticked a few of these boxes:
- Free, then disappeared (Google Optimize).
- Insanely expensive, and priced per visitor.
- Made the actual testing hard.
- A WordPress plugin with 10% of the features and no support.
I could see the plugin I wanted. I couldn’t find it. You know where this is going.
2012
SiteSpot builds hundreds of WordPress sites and starts testing every change it ships.
2018
AB Split Test v1 ships as an extension for Beaver Builder. It gets traction fast.
2020–24
Blocks, Elementor, Bricks, Oxygen, Breakdance and full-page tests. Heatmaps, recordings, bandits.

What I learned
Most people don’t need a better tool. They need to keep going.
Once the tool worked, I could see the real pattern. Most sites run one test, get “no significant difference”, and stop. Or they find a winner, ship it, and never run the next one. Optimisation only compounds when the loop keeps turning: look at the data, pick the biggest opportunity, test it, learn, go again. Every month. For years.
